Don't Wait to be Invited to the Table; Build Your Table

June 27, 2019

I did not catch the BET Awards this past weekend. However, I heard the talk on social media about what Tyler Perry said as he accepted his 2019 Iconic Award. Everything he said was powerful, especially about black women.

What spoke to me was, instead of waiting for a seat at the table, build your own table, and allow God to prepare the table in the presence of your enemies. That was powerful because some of us have been waiting for the seat at the table. Some of us have been waiting for someone to invite us to the table. Why not create your own table? There are many amazing women in this world. Matter fact, there are billions of people in this world, that one can collaborate. Find amazing women who have the same likes and interest. Collaborate and build a table together.

Women have the most powerful influence in this world. We are the most powerful creatures on the face of this earth. No disrespect to men, but if you sit down and you think about the things that women have been through,  the world places on our shoulders, what they expect of us, and how we do it all.  God created us Fearfully and Wonderfully.

We have babies;  we create nations, we raise nations.  We are more powerful than we think, and it's time for you to reach down inside yourself and discover the real you.  Live your life on your terms. Also, make sure that God is the head of your life.

No one said it's going to be easy. You have people who are close to you who don't want you to be successful, who don't want you to be happy.

They want you to be sad and miserable and complaining because misery loves company.  Sometimes you have to push those people aside. My mother used to tell me that sometimes you have to treat people with a long-handled spoon and even though they could be your family, friends, or significant other, it doesn't matter.

Don't stand and wait for a table like one does at a restaurant. Girl create the most powerful table in the world. Tyler Perry did it. If you are not familiar with his story, I suggest you read his story of how he used to live in a car because he was homeless.  He spoke of his mom and being in the projects every Friday night and being around other powerful black women with a 12th-grade education.

It doesn't matter. Some people get so tied up on education, and I'm not saying it doesn't have any value, but there is something that only life experiences teaches you more than a school.

Tyler Perry didn't wait for permission to have a seat at the table. Stop waiting for permission to go after your dreams. Stop waiting for somebody telling you it's okay. Stop waiting for something to happen. You have to make things happen.

You are the most amazing, phenomenal woman that God has created. It's time to get to walk into your greatness.  Stop hiding in the shadows, sitting on the sidelines, and a couch. You are just waiting for an opportunity to come to you. Please say, I am going to build my table today. Reach out to other women.  Research, pray, and do it. Just do it and watch who wants to come and sit at your table.
